Opening QuickBooks to find product information

To open QuickBooks:

  1. Press and hold the CTRL key, and then double-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop.
  2. Continue holding down the CTRL key until you see the No Company Open window.
  3. With QuickBooks open, click on the link in this article for your version of QuickBooks.
  4. Follow the instructions for finding your product information and then click Product Updates to update QuickBooks to the latest release.

If QuickBooks still does not open:

  1. Right-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop, and click Properties .
  2. Click Find Target and right click QBW32.EXE .
  3. Click Properties and click the General tab. The Location line shows the year of your QuickBooks version.
  4. Click the Version tab and under Item name, click File Version. To the right, under Value, the last release update to your copy of QuickBooks appears. For example: 16.0D R12. The number 16 refers to QuickBooks 2006 (17 would refer to 2007 and so on). The R12 refers to release 12.
  5. Make a note of this information, and then click the link in this article for your version of QuickBooks.
  6. Follow the Product Updates section to update your version of QuickBooks to the latest release.

If you still cannot open QuickBooks, click QuickBooks does not open when double clicking the icon , or start a new search.

Find product version and release information for QuickBooks Simple Start, Basic, Pro, Premier, or Enterprise Solutions

Follow these steps to find your product version and release information and to determine if you have the latest release.

To find the product version and release information:

  1. Open QuickBooks. In the title bar at the top of the screen, your QuickBooks [company name] appears along with the QuickBooks version and year.
  2. Press the F2 key to open the Product Information window. If the window does not open, press and hold CTRL+1 (the 1 key located under F1).
    The version (such as QuickBooks Premier), the edition (such as Contractor), and the release appear on the Product line at the top of the window. For example: "QuickBooks: Premier Contractor Edition 2007 Release R1P." R1P refers to the first release of QuickBooks Premier Contractor Edition 2007.
  3. Make a note of your version, edition (if applicable), and release. If you do not have the latest release available, you must update your version as the initial start of your troubleshooting process.

To determine if your release is the latest release available.

Compare your release, found on the Product Information window in the earlier steps, to the Product update page.

  1. Click the Product Updates page and notice the QuickBooks version and year displayed under the green bar.
  2. If your QuickBooks year is different, click the orange Select a Different Product button. and click Let me select my product and version from a list... .
  3. Select the following and click OK :
    • Your QuickBooks version (such as Pro or Premier).
    • If editions appear, the edition you have (such as Contractor or Retail).
    • Your product year (such as 2007).
  4. Locate the the list of What's new in release <product year>(R <release number>) links in the Release information section in the center area of the Products Updates page. The most current release appears at the top of the list.
  5. Compare this release with the release you have. If your release is not the most current, Intuit recommends you update your version to the most current release. Scroll to the Manual Updates section of the Product Updates page for the free download and installation directions.

Now that you know your product information, you can search for the solution you needed.

Find Point of Sale Product Version Information:

To determine your Point Of Sale (POS) version, open any form, such as a sales receipt or voucher, and then double-click the gray bar at the bottom of the window. This opens the Product Information window. The version and release appear in the Product line at the top of the window.

Now that you know your product information, you can search for the solution you needed.

Find Customer Manager Product Version and Release Information:

To determine the product version, select theQuickBooks Help menu and select About. This opens the About QuickBooks Customer Manager window. The version and release appear in the Release Number line. For example, v2_5mr_QBCM_V2.5R1_070214_00.

Find Financial Statement Designer (formerly Financial Reporter) Product Version Information:

  1. In QuickBooks, select the Reports menu and select Financial Statement Designer (FSD).
  2. In FSD select the Help menu and select About Financial Statement Designer .

The version appears in the About window. For example Version 4.2.0.3.
